Okay, I see that no one has started anything, so here it goes. . . :D

I go to a community college in the city and I'm trying to get into the dental hygiene program to become a dental hygienist (sp?) In Anatomy class today I dissected a sheep's eye! It was really fun to do. I am not easily grossed out by gory stuff. Last week, the class had to dissect a sheep's brain. Some people got really into it and took pictures of themselves with their camera phones. :D

The biggest thing I ever sliced open was a fetal pig (with the umbilical cord still attached and everything) . I was in the 10th grade!

So. . . yeah. Do any of you guys like slicing dead animals up? (For scientific purposes. . . )

Yeah. I actually liked all that stuff when I took Anatomy. I was a pre-vet major in college and took a Animal Reproduction course as well. We actually had to pretend inseminate a cow uterus with a sheet over our hands, like we were reaching in the anus to feel where we were going. The uterus, however, was just an extra body part after the cows being slaughtered.

Now, I work in the microbiology department in a hospital so I have nothing to do with such body parts. Except for an extremely rare severed toe. Oh, we do get donor corneas quite often, and a piece of a placenta every now and then. But that's about it. I think I'd prefer body parts to the stool, sputum and abscesses I deal with now.

im in yr 7(english) and really dont agree with slicing open dead anmals. I honestly think it's cruel, because when they die i really think you shouldnt play around with their body. But thats just my opian lol. Everyone has difrent veiws on this and good for you guys who like this :)

Would you rather have surgeons operate on you without any real experience? I think it would be cruel to kill an animal for that purpose, but most of the time these are parts that would be thrown out anyway after an animal being slaughtered for meat. And the cat I dissected in anatomy died for some other reason first. Are you a vegetarian? Maybe this is just a neccessary evil. Can you think of a way around it?

lol I was a pre-vet major but I'm just going to get my B.S. in animal science but anyways...I took a reproduction class too and I didn't do what your class did. We actually got to artificially inseminate the cows but with blanks. We also dissected the reproduction tracts of both the female and male. The female reproduction tract dissection I didn't really agree with because where we got them from they actually had a fetus in the uterus and I just thought that was wrong in some ways.

im in 10th grade and we like just disected a fetal pig too! thats so weird that out of all things in the world, disection was brought up. Just saying.. 8o
